1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. (ESV)
Today (Wednesday, February 22) we begin our 40-Day Journey to the cross and the empty tomb. Each year, the season of Lent interrupts our normal patterns of life, and for 6 weeks, we contemplate and focus on the trials and sufferings of our Savior, Jesus Christ. And each Sunday through Lent, like every Sunday throughout the year, we celebrate the Resurrection and Christ's victory over sin, death and the devil.
This year, we invite you to join our Lenten journey by taking on a discipline of Bible-Reading. Whether you are an avid reader of the Scripture or not, we invite you to join this journey. It's a journey that will take us through the Old Testament, where we'll read about the whole history of God's people.
And throughout our journey we will, time and again, see the stage set for God's ultimate work of faithfulness and love in Jesus Christ.
Today's text reminds us of the beginning...the creation of all things...and God's declaration that His creation is good.
As you read today, consider the following questions:
- What do you believe about God? Who is he?
- In what ways do you see evidence for God—if any—in the world around you?
- What other insights to you glean from these verses?
