Workneh Family Biography
Alemzewd Workneh is 49 years old and came to live in the USA in 2005 with her sister in Wylie, TX. She lived here for 3 years before her husband and sons could join her. Their life was unhappy in Ethiopia. She lost her first husband in prison. After a difficult life she married her second husband Yefa Bedane, 55 years old. They had a difficult life due to their race and political views. This situation forced her to ask for political asylum in the U.S.A. Her family joined her in 2008 where they made a home in Plano.

She now works for Exxon Mobile and her husband works for Sanden International. They have two sons, Binyam and Yonas. Binyam will start the 11th grade this fall and makes mostly A’s in school. Yonas will be starting the 9th grade this fall. Both boys manage to keep good grades despite their transition to the United States which makes their parents very proud. Their children spend their weekdays at school and a lot of time studying. On the weekends they spend their spare time at home and also some quality time with the family like going to the gym, cinema, park, mall, and other places to enjoy each other’s company.

Alemzewd heard about Habitat from a coworker who told her how it has changed people’s lives. They applied to be a partner family and now they are one of the families getting a house of their own! She is so excited and feels it will change their lives forever!  “I and my family are very thankful to say thank you Habitat for Humanity for changing our life.”
